Learn the joyful music of samba and perform it together.

The Pagode Class invites students into the warm, festive world of samba de raiz - the popular,
acoustic form of samba often played in bars, on beaches, or on stage. You’ll learn to play and
sing with the traditional instruments of a pagode group: pandeiro, tantã, rebolo, repique de mão,
tamborim, and the cavaquinho.

Each session combines technical learning and group practice, working toward a medley of iconic
samba songs.

One Saturday a month, after our full rehearsal, the student group performs live in a relaxed and joyful roda de samba. The audience receives lyrics and joins in, singing in unison with the musicians.

Also called roda de samba, this form brings people together around a table, a circle, and a
shared love for music.
