Batucada class
At Odoyá Center, the Batucada Class offers a progressive and energizing path into the world of Brazilian carnival drumming. Students explore the signature instruments of the bateria - surdo, repinique, caixa, tamborim, chocalho, and more - while building ensemble cohesion and rhythmic precision.
We focus on the traditional rhythms of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, preparing our students to play
as a powerful, unified group in major public performances - including the Kigali Carnival.
Open to all levels, the class encourages each participant to find their groove and contribute to the
collective energy of the orchestra.
In Brazil, this is called the bateria of the samba school. It’s the heartbeat of the parade.
🎶 The program includes 30 weekly classes of 2 hours each throughout the year, plus 10 full-ensemble rehearsals.
Classes are open to all levels and encourage every participant to find their groove and contribute to the collective energy of the orchestra.
