Batucada Samba Dance Class

During the workshops, we will focus primarily on the rhythms of the Rio Carnival. Each participant will play all the instruments of the bateria (surdo, chocalho, repinique, caixa, tamborim, agogo).

In the first term, all beginner students will rotate through all the instruments and then specialize in one or two of their favorites. We will meet with the dance, cavaquinho, and pagode sections throughout the year. Each year, we study the champion samba enredo of the Rio Carnival with its original arrangements.

All instruments are provided (we are sponsored by Contemporanea, a major Brazilian percussion brand).

All workshops will meet one Saturday per month from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to practice together. (Not mandatory.)

Every year, we organize a trip to Rio with around 15 advanced students.
